All full-time faculty (lecturers, clinical, tenure-earning, and tenured) are required to submit an annual FAR within Faculty180.

Faculty have from March 1 until April 1 to review, edit, and upload any information for their FAR and complete the self-evaluation. As a reminder, faculty are able to update their “Activities” in Faculty180 year-round, but they must submit their FAR, which includes a summary, by April 1.

Chairs have from April 2 to April 21 to review the FARs and self-evaluations, and provide written evaluations within the Faculty180 system.

Faculty then have from April 22 to May 2 to “acknowledge” the chair’s evaluation. Faculty are provided an opportunity to respond in the system during this period, although a response is not required.

Deans have from May 3 through May 18 to “acknowledge” the evaluation. They will also have an opportunity to add any comments.

Faculty should refer to their college’s administrators to determine specific submission requirements.

Faculty members must use the electronic process and be mindful of the due dates. The Faculty 180 system requires a hard deadline for the annual review process and will submit the FAR and self-evaluation automatically at the due date/time, regardless of whether the information is complete. Reappointments and any potential merit increases are dependent on the information contained in the FAR submission. The deadlines follow the Faculty Handbook.

This survey will be administered to all first-year and senior students currently enrolled at 鶹ƷƵ.

The NSSE student survey will be sent via email today, February 18, 2025, and will remain open through the end of the academic year. The survey asks students to reflect on how they spend their time, their academic experiences, and the benefits they derive from attending 鶹ƷƵ. This is part of our ongoing university assessment and accreditation efforts, with the survey having been conducted previously in 2019 and 2022.

“We’re especially interested in how the COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced students’ experiences at 鶹ƷƵ,” said Dr. Suzanne Jenkins-Simpson, Assistant Provost and Director of the Office of Institutional Research, Effectiveness, and Assessment (OIREA). “By comparing the 2019, 2022, and 2025 results, we can better understand shifts in student priorities and expectations. The survey will also examine the first-year and senior-year experiences, helping us track changes in student engagement over time. The insights gathered will ultimately inform our efforts to improve and grow as an institution.”

How You Can Help

We encourage faculty and staff to encourage first-year and senior students to complete the NSSE survey. Their feedback is essential for us to gain a comprehensive understanding of their experiences and to guide future improvements at 鶹ƷƵ.

Additional information about the NSSE survey is available at uah.edu/nsse.

On April 1st, a Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE) will also be distributed to those teaching in AY ‘24-’25, providing insight into the alignment between student and faculty perceptions of engagement and teaching at 鶹ƷƵ.
