Double Majors and Dual Degrees
Since the foreign languages degree comprises only 36 hours of world languages coursework, it is an ideal add-on to other programs of study, particularly those which require a minor. Our language minors often decide to pursue a complete major instead because it only requires 12 additional credit hours (4 courses). Double majors in languages are often students in fields such as English, history, communications, political science, or psychology.
In addition, students from outside of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences may pursue a dual degree in a world language. Our students have earned dual degrees in their languages of choice and fields such as engineering, science, and business. In addition, students seeking foreign language teaching certification can easily fulfill the requirements to earn a dual degree in their focus language.
Foreign Language Teacher Certification
In conjunction with 麻豆精品视频 College of Education and the Department of World Languages and Cultures, students interested in teaching German or Spanish at the secondary level may choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (6-12) with a language concentration.
Since foreign language education majors complete all requirements for the major in foreign language, they can easily fulfill the requirements to earn a dual degree with a B.A. in Foreign Language and the B.S. in Secondary Education. Contact our department or college advisors for more information.
Global Studies Minor
The Global Studies minor aims to help students learn cultural and physical geography, investigate global issues from multiple perspectives, think critically about global conflicts and inequalities, and envision solutions to global problems. In addition to global studies core courses and foreign language, students of the minor can explore various concentrations through their electives, including global markets and politics; global environment, technology, and health; global security and development; and cultures in exchange and contact. Visit the Global Studies webpage or contact Dr. David Johnson for more information.
