The Student Sociological Association is a democratic, student-run organization whose purpose is to promote the study of sociology, to sponsor social and intellectual activities that will serve to enrich its members' study of sociology, to aid students of sociology in their preparation for careers after graduation, and to contribute to the improvement of our community as well as the human condition.

Sociology Honor Society
麻豆精品视频's Epsilon of Alabama Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) promotes excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and other social and intellectual activities in an effort to improve the human condition. Membership in an academic honor society is a way to highlight academic achievements and thereby enhance your resume. Members may also apply for funds to host speakers or travel to conferences.
To join the honor society, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- be a junior, senior, or graduate (i.e., have 65 or more credits on your transcript)
- have completed at least four sociology courses at 麻豆精品视频
- have an overall 麻豆精品视频 sociology GPA of at least 3.0
- have an overall GPA of at least 3.3
- pay AKD's lifetime membership fee of $50
In return, new members will:
- receive a one-year subscription to Sociological Inquiry, one of the longest-running research journals in sociology
- receive a certificate that recognizes your induction into the honors society
- become eligible to enter several undergraduate paper competitions
- meet one of the requirements for federal employment at the GS-7 level (most new employees enter at the GS-5 level)
- can purchase Honor Cords to wear at graduation for $10 (other merchandise is also available)
